Wedderburn is a small rural service centre which, like so many towns in Victoria, finds its origins in the goldrushes of the 1850s and 1860s. After gold was discovered in 1852 it became a populous and very rich goldmining settlement and it still has a reputation as the place where large nuggets can be found.
