What is a butterfly bandage used for?
Butterfly stitches, also known as “Steri-Strips”, are adhesive bandages used to close small, shallow wounds. Butterfly stitches are an alternative to traditional needle and thread sutures, which are useful in cases that a wound is large, uneven, or bleeding heavily.
When do you remove butterfly bandages?
Always put the butterfly bandage across a cut, not lengthwise, to hold the edges together. Watch for signs of infection. If an infection develops under a bandage, you may need to see your doctor. Take the bandage off and leave it off whenever you are sure the wound will not become irritated or dirty.
Are butterfly closures waterproof?

Can you get stitches after 2 days?

Can I shower with my Steri strips?
Steri-Strips: You can wash or shower with Steri-Strips in place. Clean the area with mild soap and water and gently pat dry with a clean towel or cloth. Do not pull, tug or rub Steri-Strips. The Steri-Strips will fall off on their own within two weeks.

Can you get butterfly stitches wet?
After 48 hours, surgical wounds can get wet without increasing the risk of infection. After this time, you can get your stitches wet briefly with a light spray (such as in the shower), but they should not be soaked (for example, in the bath). Make sure you pat the area dry afterwards.
Do butterfly stitches hurt?
Dissolving stitches, glue, and butterflies come out or off on their own. The doctor or nurse has to remove other kinds of stitches. The stitch is cut at the knot, and the little thread is pulled out. You may feel a bit of pulling, but it won’t hurt.
