Is Cas an organization?

When should I call CAS?
Every professional who works with children must call the CAS if they suspect abuse or neglect of a child under 16 years old. This includes teachers, doctors, social workers, religious leaders and day care workers. If they do not report to the CAS, they can be charged with a crime.
Can you anonymously report CAS?
Can I make a referral to the CAS anonymously? Yes, all calls to the agency are taken seriously regardless of whether you provide your name or not. Providing your name, however, allows for the social worker investigating the matter to be able to clarify information with you and helps to verify the concerns.
What is considered neglect of a child?
Neglect is the failure to provide for or meet a child’s basic physical, emotional, educational, and medical needs. Parents or caregivers may leave a child in the care of a person who is known to be abusive, or they may leave a young child unattended.

Does CAS take your child?
The CAS can remove, or apprehend, your child from the home if it has decided that your child is in need of protection and there is no other way to keep your child safe. If this happens, get legal advice right away. The CAS must go to court within five days of removing a child from the home.

Beryl Ford has been actively involved with the Peel CAS and the Foundation Board for almost 20 years. Beryl was Chair of the Steering committee for the formation of the Foundation and has been a Board Member since its inception. She is currently the Past President of the Foundation having served as President for the last four years.
