Can a child of a veteran join The American Legion?
Yes! Many veterans who are eligible for membership in The American Legion are also eligible to join the Sons. They are very much welcome to belong to both organizations.
Can you join The American Legion if you are not a veteran?
Yes, you are a veteran. All current active duty military are eligible for membership. I didn’t retire from the military, but was on active duty during one of the qualifying time periods. As long as you have served at least one day of federal active duty during any qualifying period, you are eligible for membership.
Can anyone drink at American Legion?
No alcoholic beverages are allowed outside in front of the building. Food brought in for members must be coordinated with the Bar Manager/ bartender in advance. Presentable clothing is expected as representatives of The American Legion. Wearing of Legion hats and apparel is encouraged.

Women who are veterans and are eligible to join The American Legion are welcome and encouraged to do so. The American Legion Auxiliary was established to provide Legion Family membership for female relatives of Legionnaires.

Membership in the American Legion Auxiliary is currently open to grandmothers, mothers, sisters, spouses, and direct and adopted female descendants of eligible veterans.
